This year, the JJIU staff and students opened our hearts to the people of Northern Laos, Vietnam, who are working on an ambitious project to build a new school and bring fresh drinking water to their people.
Our dancers spent countless hours making friendship bracelets and writing letters to the villages’ children and at our annual recital, the Glitter/Stardust Competitive Team dedicated their showstopping lyrical number, Friends are Like Family to the people of Laos. The bracelets were delivered this Spring to the village children and the letters, translated with the help of the locals, were received by delighted children!
The Adopt a Village project continues – school construction is underway and water filters are being distributed throughout the tiny villages but we still need your help! Read more about Adopt a Village in Laos and find out how you can help.
Studio Director Jennifer Mercer will travel to Laos later this year to distribute new water filters to village families, attend the Grand Opening of the school and of course, dance with the local children! Join us at the Town Park Recreation Centre on Friday, September 24th for a Family Dance Fundraiser, featuring a special performance by the JJIU Dancers – all proceeds will go to the Adopt a Village in Laos project! Contact Us for more information.
